Most families and business owners deal with a banker, an insurance agent, an investment adviser and a lawyer, and each of them sees one piece of the picture. A life insurance policy gets bought without anyone looking at the portfolio next to it. A portfolio gets built without anyone asking who inherits it. I spent years on the finance side of those conversations and then became a licensed insurance producer, and the gaps between the pieces were easy to see from both seats.
Rothswell is my attempt to close those gaps under one name. The plan has four parts: asset management, the American Legacy Fund, wealth management and insurance. The pieces are meant to share one view of the client, so that a decision in one area is made knowing what sits in the others.
What exists today
The insurance business is the part that is open. The Rothswell insurance agency is licensed in New York. Life, accident and health insurance are offered independently, and property and casualty coverage is offered through Brightway. As a licensed producer I act in the client's best interest, which is also what New York's Regulation 187 requires for life insurance and annuity recommendations.
What does not exist yet
The American Legacy Fund is under development and is not offered to anyone through this website. Wealth management and a registered investment adviser are planned, not established. I would rather say this plainly than let a website imply something that is not in place.
How I will measure it
The test for the platform is simple. A client should be able to explain who is responsible for each part of their finances, what each part costs, and how the parts fit together. If they cannot, the platform has not done its job yet.
